The 20-Litre Challenge: How Mr. Magara Stunned the Baganda

Bakiga tranditional drinks were Obushera butoko (to heal thirst), then local beers, Omuramba(fermented with ekyanga) and Enturire(fermented with Honey) . All these were products of a seasonal long-to-ripe plant called Sorghum, "Ekikumba kyomugusha".

Actually in Early 1860's Baganda and Bakiga decided to have a drinking competition.

Then a week before the competition, the Bakiga sent Mr. Magara to Buganda to confirm if the competition will be held.
On arrival, the people of Buganda brought 20 litres of their strongest brewed beer. Mr. Magara asked if he could taste and he was permitted to do so.
Instead of just tasting, he finished the 20 litres at once, and said, ''this is okay, so where is the main drink??'
The Baganda were all shocked because nobody had ever taken more than 5 litres of this beer and stood breathing!.
Then they asked him, "Are you among the competitors? Mr. Magara said, "Noo, I didn't qualify."
Competition was cancelled
