Okuzaara Akafute.
(Breech birth)
A breech birth is when a baby comes out of the womb legs first(one or both legs) or brings the buttocks first.
[Currently this is not as common due to early detection on ultrasound scans and caesarian section deliveries]
But did you know?
In Ankore, Akafute is considered as Twins (Amahasha/Abarongo) and receives similar (not necessarily identical) rituals??
Also, a child who follows this breech birthed child takes a similar name (Kiiza-if male/Nyamwi(z)ja - if female) as one who follows twins.
Whether the twins are identical/same sex (Amayangi) or fraternal/different sexes (Embangurane) the rituals will/would be done to welcome twins in the family. Else, "Abarongo niboosya abantu",
However, a breech birthed child, is/was considered a misfortune (Aine enkara) so, the rituals were more of a cleansing practice
Whereas a mother of twins is commonly known as Narongo, it is very uncommon for a mother of akafute to be named so.
