Uncovering the History of Chicken consumption in Ankore

In old days people of Ankole were not eating chicken, it's not because hens were not there but they were not chicken eaters. 

Hens that was there was Ankle bleeds and types of coloures and people named them #kikara that's black, Bugondo that's the one with a lot of spots around its body,Empanyure   

That's the one without feathers around the necks , Enterere the one with shot legs and Ensesere the one with shabby feathers and many others. 

Hens were named according to their coloures and looks.

Eating chicken in Ankole were not there at all and the one seen eating chicken were seen eating something disgusting and even one could vomit on seeing someone eating chicken. My grandfather John told me that even utensils used to cook chicken were not brought near the people. 

And men eating chicken could not involve or drink with their fellow men on beer parties #Entereko.

The one who had gone to baganda are the ones that brought that habit of eating chicken on Ankole land. when they went to Buganda and found baganda eating and respecting and that's where they get to taste how sweet it was. 

The main use of hens in Ankole were used for sacrifices and offerings for their small gods and used In Emigyenzo,okuterekyerera,okuroga and okukura emandwa. 

After more banyankole started going to buganda the number of chicken eaters increased but only young men were the first to get attracted unlike the old ones who new the story of eating chicken. And eating chicken begun from there up now and it's a continuous generation of eating chicken because everyone knows that chicken is food and it honored on various accasions such as Introductions and others although there some old banyankole who don't eat chicken.
